90.3 The Rock is proud to be a presenting sponsor for Knoxville’s first-ever 2010 DJ Throwdown, taking place Thursday, April 1^st at The Fairbanks Night Club, 315 Mohican Street in Bearden.

The 2010 DJ Throw Down is a live deejay competition that will determine Knoxville’s best club deejay, and it is part of the Lord Lindsey Revival Weekend at Fairbanks.   Club deejays from any and every genre are welcome to participate, and 15 to 20 deejays will be chosen for the final competition that will include cash prizes and more for the winner.  Crowd participation is encouraged, and deejays are encouraged to use a “healthy” mix of genres in the competition.

Doors open at 9 p.m. and opening the show will be Sleigh Bells, Slink, and Selektro. Major Lazer is touring to support the release of their latest album “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do.” Major Lazer’s mix of digital reggae and dance music has featured collaborations with artists such as M.I.A. and Santogold. Rusko is known for his high energy dubstep sound.

Preservation Pub welcomes Vermont band PARIAH BEAT for a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration on Wednesday, March 17th. PARIAH BEAT hails from the backwoods of Vermont’s Connecticut River Valley, and is bringing their punk infused blend of blues, country and old time roots music to the Preservation Pub for a Saint Patrick’s Day party beginning at 9 p.m.

The 5^th annual Rico Stache Bash benefits the University of Tennessee Small Animal Oncology Department.

Contestants can compete in moustache categories such as “Most Creative”, “Best Place to Hide a Criminal”, and “Welcome to Puberty”.  But you don’t have to compete to enjoy Stache Bash!  There will be a silent auction, live music, door prizes, ballot casting and more.  Donations to the UT Small Animal Oncology Department are gladly accepted, and there is a $7 entry fee for contestants with all proceeds benefiting the department.

Hailing from the UK, Shpongle is a new world of psychedelic electronic music merging elements of trance and dub with samples of eastern ethnic instruments, and silver flute by Raja Ram. Add in the computer wizardry of Simon Posford’s studio production and Shpongle is created. Simon is currently performing DJ sets on his tour to promote the new Shpongle album, Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland.

Also performing at this show will be Prometheus (Benji Vaughan DJ Set) and Younger Brother (Simon Posford + Benji Vaughan DJ Set). Knoxville's own Dialectic Sines will open the show, and visuals will be provided by VJ Zebbler.

Ultra Music Festival features 16 stages over two days, with more than 200 DJs, bands, and producers. This year’s line-up includes Tiesto, Dead Mouse, Passion Pit, The Crystal Method, Lotus, The Disco Biscuits, Pretty Lights, Ghostland Observatory, Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, and many more. Ultra Music Festival also features a variety of sideshow attractions, performers, and international dancers, food and beverage vendors, a bohemian marketplace, and more.

Electronic jam band EOTO consists of percussionist Jason Hann and Michael Travis, both hailing from the String Cheese Incident’s prominent rhythm section. With their live set entirely improvised, audiences never know what to expect from EOTO, except for an ever-evolving musical experience covering a never-ending set of genres.

Philly’s G. Love and Special Sauce is known for their style of bluesy-hip hop. They incorporate hip-hop, funk, psychedelic, blues, and soul influences into their music for a feel-good show that keeps the crowd moving.  Rochester NY’s psychedelic reggae road warriors Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad returns to Knoxville with their funk and reggae vibes.  Music by both bands can be heard in Knoxville on The Rock.
